Kaleyce’s Summer Internship at The Children’s Place

This summer, CWC Year 3 Fellow Kaleyce Majeed joined The Children’s Place as a Design Intern through our partnership with the brand. Alongside the internship, she received a scholarship to support her education and had the opportunity to work closely with a professional design team, an experience that offered both creative and technical growth.

At The Children’s Place, Kaleyce focused on girls’ activewear and knitwear, contributing to the Fall 2026 and Back-to-School collections. Her work included designing an entire activewear capsule collection, creating flat sketches in Adobe Illustrator, and participating in every step of the design process, from sample fittings and costing meetings to fabric reviews and line confirmations.

In addition to her design work, Kaleyce conducted trend and market research, developed color palettes, and created concept boards to communicate her vision. She presented her final designs to senior leadership, including the CEO, and received exceptional feedback for her creativity and attention to detail.

We asked Kaleyce to share what she learned during her time at The Children’s Place. Here’s what she said:

What are two key things you learned during your internship?

“One of the most valuable things I learned was how to use Adobe Illustrator more proficiently, especially for creating flat sketches. I also gained insight into how design, merchandising, and sourcing teams collaborate to bring a collection from concept to final product. This internship gave me a deeper appreciation for the teamwork and detail required to create children’s fashion.”

Did the internship shift your perspective in any way?

“I learned that creativity must always balance with functionality, price, and trends. I’m especially proud of the activewear capsule I designed—from research to presentation. Seeing my ideas evolve from concept to sketches and finally to approval by senior leadership was so rewarding.”

What were your favorite parts of the internship experience?

“This experience gave me confidence in my ability to design for a brand. My favorite part was being immersed in the design process from start to finish. I loved seeing how an initial sketch could evolve into a real garment and being able to participate in fittings and fabric views. I also really appreciated the chance to learn from such a supportive and talented design team.”

We’re incredibly proud of Kaleyce’s accomplishments and can’t wait to see how she continues to grow as a designer.
