CWC Fellows Headed to SCAD This Summer

This summer, three talented CWC Year 6 Fellows are headed to the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) to attend the SCAD Rising Star program.

This challenging four-week pre-college program gives rising high school seniors the opportunity to experience college-level creative courses while earning college credit. Students enroll in two university courses and build their portfolios using SCAD’s professional studios, classrooms, labs, and creative spaces. Whether attending in Atlanta or Savannah, participants are immersed in an environment designed to help young artists grow creatively, technically, and professionally.

With courses focused on fashion, textiles, styling, technology, and design, Fellows will strengthen their skills while connecting with other creatives from around the world.

Meet the Fellows representing CWC at SCAD this summer:

CWC Year 6 Fellow Grace

Grace is an 11th grader from California who loves fashion because it can transform ideas into tangible, personal things. Sewing, crocheting, and jewelry making have helped her develop a creative style that blends craftsmanship with self-expression.

She has explored fashion both independently and through courses in Fashion Crafts and Costuming, and she also created and sold handmade earrings at school markets. For Grace, fashion is not only about trends or aesthetics, but also about bringing ideas to life through design.

One of her biggest creative inspirations is Nigel from The Devil Wears Prada. His passion and dedication to the creative process motivate Grace to fully commit herself to her work.

In the future, Grace hopes to open a small, independent wearable art studio focused on one-of-a-kind pieces that emphasize quality, creativity, and individuality. At SCAD, she is excited to gain mentorship, expand her creative perspective, and continue developing her artistic and design voice.

CWC Year 6 Fellow Xavier

Xavier is an 11th-grader from Atlanta who sees fashion as more than just clothing. To him, fashion is storytelling, identity, culture, and expression all woven together.

Although he’s newer to the fashion world, Xavier has quickly immersed himself in styling, merchandising, strategy, and creative direction. Inspired by the culture and originality around him in Atlanta, he has already begun building practical experience through collaborations and self-directed creative projects.

Recently, Xavier conceptualized and directed a birthday photoshoot inspired by his personality and identity, developing everything from the mood board and apparel to the timeline, styling, and final visual execution.

Pharrell Williams serves as one of Xavier’s greatest inspirations because of his ability to move across multiple creative disciplines while remaining authentic and innovative.

As a young Black male creative, Xavier hopes to continue challenging expectations while building a future in fashion merchandising or product development. This summer, he is looking forward to learning from industry professionals, gaining hands-on experience, and connecting with other students who share his passion for creativity and culture.

CWC Year 6 Fellow Zoe

Zoe is an 11th grader from New York City who loves fashion’s ability to communicate identity, emotion, and storytelling through design.

She currently attends the High School of Fashion Industries, where she studies fashion design and develops skills in hand beading, sewing, rendering, and patternmaking. She also participates in the Fashion Arts Exchange internship program, where she explores fashion history, research, and the culture of New York Fashion Week.

Zoe draws much of her inspiration from the world around her, especially the intersection of nature, culture, history, and social issues. She believes every garment carries a story, whether rooted in tradition, protest, personal identity, or change.

Her goal is to continue growing as both an artist and designer while preparing for a future in the fashion industry. At SCAD Rising Star, Zoe hopes to strengthen her technical skills, gain exposure to different career paths within fashion, and continue building the foundation for her future creative career.

We are proud to support Grace, Xavier, and Zoe as they take this next step in their creative journeys. This summer, they will continue developing their skills, expanding their perspectives, and building futures rooted in creativity, storytelling, and design.

We cannot wait to see what they create next.
