DaNae’s 2023

In 2023, DaNae Harrison, CWC Year 2 Fellow, has continued to achieve remarkable milestones! DaNae is not just someone who seizes all opportunities, she thrives in them. Since becoming a CWC Fellow in 2022, she has been actively engaged in every event and aspect of  our program. This year was no exception. To kick off the year, DaNae participated in our groundbreaking CAMP SKIMS X CWC virtual program—an exclusive training initiative for CWC Fellows. Led by industry leaders from SKIMS and CWC, the sessions equipped Fellows with essential skills for their education and careers.

Reflecting on her experience, DaNae highlighted the impactful session with Randy Cousin, Senior Vice President of Product Concept at Tommy Hilfiger, and Kim Schraub, Creative Director at SKIMS. She found inspiration in their stories and advice, particularly resonating with Randy's concluding words: "Stay humble. Stay hungry. Stay curious."

Despite her full-time studies in Political Science at Spelman, DaNae actively participated in all the CAMP SKIMS sessions  and continued her mentorship with Dawn Glover, Vice President of Design at Calvin Klein.

Post CAMP SKIMS, DaNae was selected as one of the three Fellows to attend Formula One’s Miami Grand Prix weekend sponsored by Tommy Hilfiger in May 2023. This exclusive event allowed her to meet Awake NY founder Angelo Baque and Formula One icon Lewis Hamilton.

As if her resume wasn't already impressive, DaNae was chosen as one of the 12 scholars to receive the Gucci Changemakers scholarship, each valued at up to $20,000. It's a testament to her exceptional achievements, and we take pride in having one of our Fellows receive such an incredible opportunity.

This summer  DaNae interned at Centric Brands in New York City. Below are some questions we asked her about her experience interning at Centric Brands as a Product Development Intern.

What are some of the main tasks at your internship?

Participate in meetings with Designers for fit, construction, trims and color approval. Coordinate the development and tracking of products and samples with the Design and Merchandising teams. Assist to resolve production issues through communication and weekly meetings with Designers and Technical Designers.

What have you learned at your internship?

Throughout my internship at Centric Brands, I learned a multitude of fashion terminology and information about the product life cycle. Most importantly, I gained experience in navigating corporate spaces and insight into what my future could look like living in New York City and pioneering the fashion industry.

Who have you met during your internship?

I met other interns with various backgrounds and experiences. Additionally, I had the opportunity to meet and have a 1-on-1 conversation with the CEO, Jason Rabin, who advised me that “at your young age, focus on building your brand and the narrative you want people to have when talking about you.”

Did the internship change your perspective on anything?

This internship changed my perspective on how the fashion industry operates. As a consumer, I never realized how complex the product life cycle is until I worked as a product development intern this summer. Also, as I worked in the Kids Department, I learned that kids' wear is so meticulous due to the responsibility of maintaining the safety of the child.
