CWC Year 3 Fellow Samara
This summer, CWC Fellow Samara Witter finished a styling internship with Nuuly at URBN’s home offices. As a Styling Intern, Samara gained hands-on experience with the work that goes into styling e-commerce shoots and presenting the Nuuly brand online.
Throughout the internship, Samara assisted with styling both on and off set. She helped prepare clothing, shoes, and accessories for shoots while learning how Nuuly’s brand identity influences the way each look comes together.

Her responsibilities included styling, steaming garments, helping models change during shoots, scanning garments to and from distribution centers, and organizing inventory.
Below, Samara shares more about her summer at Nuuly and what she learned from her first fashion industry internship.
What were some of your main responsibilities or projects?
“My responsibilities included styling both on and off set, steaming garments, helping models change for shoots, scanning garments to and from the distribution centers, and organizing inventory.”

What are some of the biggest things you learned?
“I learned how to work in a very fast-paced environment and how to efficiently multitask. I also learned about the importance of color theory, silhouette, and brand identity when styling outfits. I learned the importance of networking and communication within a team setting, too.”
What was your favorite part of the experience?
“My favorite part of the experience was getting to explore a new aspect of fashion. As a design major, I don’t get much instruction or insight into the importance of styling choices and how to properly make those choices, so I enjoyed getting that professional, front-row experience.”

Is there a project or accomplishment you’re especially proud of?
“I am extremely proud of my final intern project, where I applied what I learned about Nuuly’s brand identity to create six styled looks targeted toward the Gen Z college girl.”

How did this internship influence what you want to do next?
“This internship, being my first one, furthered my excitement and confirmed my desire to work in the fashion industry. While I still want to focus on design, it also piqued my interest in pursuing opportunities in the styling field!”
Samara’s summer at Nuuly gave her the opportunity to explore an area of fashion outside of her primary focus in design. This hands-on experience showed her how decisions around color, silhouette, accessories, and brand identity come together to create a finished look.

Samara’s first internship confirmed her interest in pursuing a career in fashion while opening the door to something new: styling.
